This nude was created after sketching a model that had posed for me in a myriad of positions.  It was a fabulous morning of different lights and poses and depths of concentration for us both.  It is a challenge for a model to hold a pose for a period of time however I am grateful for the model to have held this particular one.  I also wanted to create this particular piece of artwork in something a little different from my normal nudes.  I base painted the canvas in several tones and then sketched this lovely and what I believe is a pose in charcoal.  I sometimes feel less is best when creating artwork and this piece I feel proved my theory.  I created a very simple effect yet quite confronting to some apparently which is where the title of this piece came from.  Whilst I feel it was a tasteful piece to create I had an emerging artist visit my gallery viewing this particular piece of my work, he immediately sprung around and said “Joyce this is quite confronting”.  I was perplexed as an emerging artist he should feel this way however the title suddenly came to my mind “Tastefully Confronting” and it has stuck.
