Joyce Hatchett | Simple Elegance

This particular semi nude I wanted to create for quite some time prior to. I had the idea of seating a semi nude lady simply and elegantly with her partially exposed back swathed in a beautifully warm and comforting deep burgundy velvet wrap on an old fashioned oval shaped automan. I absolutely lovely the feel of velvet with a passion as I do the colour of burgundy and this is how I wanted the lady in the painting to feel so to speak. I also wished to, as I do with most of my work, create subtle appearances or things within the piece to make the viewer work. I created a second and third painting within the painting by painting a mirror image ‘within the painting within the painting’. This painting currently is for sale and lives at Be Beautiful beauty salon in Marlston Hill in Bunbury.
