Kiss Cow Moosic Mania

Kiss Cow Moosic Mania was created for Radio West to be part of the Cow Parade in 2010.

I was approached by Radio West to create this cow for the abovementioned parade.  Cliff Reeve the Radio Announcer at the time of commissioning me to create this lovely bovine not so subtly suggested that she/he be created in the form of a Rock Star and that it be Gene Simmons from the fabulous band KISS.

From this moment on I was eager to get my teeth stuck into this one.  What fun and a challenge on receiving just a white fibreglass canvas shaped as a cow.  I approached my Clinical Psychologist husband and asked if he would like to be involved as I knew exactly what I wanted to do but needed his manpower and strength to create such a classic.

It was mid Summer in hot temperatures around 37 to 40 degrees (and much hotter working on same in hubby’s shed) whilst we created the Kiss Cow Moosic Mania.  She has several thick coats of a bright and lustry (no such word but its mine) red with black co-ordinates.  I painted the Gene Simmons type boots up her legs.  Enlisted Douglas (my husband) to place bolts in her feet and ears.  Metal bits from a hardware shop pinned, screwed and bolted on in many places.  I then wanted a belt to go around her waiste and came up with the idea of cds again enlisting hubby to bolt same to her.  Then the head piece and hair and more.  I didn’t want Paul Stanley to be left out.  I actually didn’t want any of the other band members to miss out but only had a certain amount of room and time  so I painted Paul on the back of the udder where I had a reasonable piece of the canvas so to speak to work on.

And then the udder, well it wouldn’t do to have anything else but more metal and what better than miniature cheese graters.

All in all it was a fabulous commission and I am grateful for Radio West and all therein for believing in me to be able to come up with this in unique piece of artwork.  In the first week after the launch of Cow Parade this cow was acknowledged internationally and later nationally in an eastern states newspaper.  Amazing.

The Kiss Cow Moosic Mania was originally supposed to be auctioned off for charity however Radio West loved their bovine so much that they have kept her and she now lives in their foyer at Radio West in Bunbury and I visit her every so often.
